The JAL Cowboy Days Celebration this Saturday

The beginnings of the celebration at the lake. We have some vendors setting up and people arriving. If you look real close there is a flat bed in the picture. This is where the bands will play and for those wishing to dance, the basketball court is the dance floor.
The parade is in progress with the Wells Fargo stage coming into view. A real nice stagecoach with horses. For this small town, the parade was well done.
And the parade is over, as there goes the stage out of town. Shirley made the comment that the girls here are pretty. I didnt get any pics of the Queen and Princess. I have a pretty girl with me so I dont need photos of other girls.
Another vendor setup. They have BBQ, Tex-Mex, water and pinapple-bannana drinks and the usual vendor items. I told Shirley is a carnival was here, there would be lots of people. Somebody has to sponser the carnival (IE, put up the money).
Temp now is 102 and I should say climbing.
And climbing it did to 107 at this edit.
Lets update the temp, its 108 at this time.
Its not over yet, now at 3:55 pm its 109. Is 110 around the corner?

Jal, NM

A view of our back in RV parking by the lake. We are in space #2. There are 8 spaces with 30 amp and water. Some of the water outlets are very close, less than 6 inches, to the ground. Some were higher, 12 inches above the ground. The worker is fixing the security light in space #3. Space #4 has a class c and space #6 has a popup. All the spaces are on sandstone rock and it does track into the RV or car. Be sure to wipe your shoes or remove them when entering the RV.
We have a covered table and a BBQ.
On edit, its 6 space not 8.

Coming south from Hobbs and just north of Jal is this metal sculpture on the hillside. The tallest figures are 20 foot tall. There are more photos on webshots with some nice close ups.

The city sign of the Jal Lake Park. There is to be a weekend celebration with vendors, a parade, pioneers, cowboys and horses, and other happenings. There will be more photos then.

This metal sculpture was by the lake parking. We have cowboys branding a calf with another calf waiting.

These sculptures are first rate. See our blogg photos from last year along the Enchanted Highway.

We have only NBC here with a snowy ABC. Since we watch the Survivor on CBS, we must move to a town with reception. IN Lovington we had no ABC at all.
IE, bring your satellite tv with you.

We will be moving Sunday if we want to have CBS. We can go to Andrews, TX (tv from Odessa) or go on to Pesos, TX (tv from Odessa) or hopefully cable at the Escapees park.

There are more photos in the Webshots link.

Tomorrow is Friday and Moving Day

We will leave sometime in the morning and head south on NM18 to Jal, NM. We have to pickup some papaers here and hit the ATM first. We are going to the park there, no sure just which park but a park. No worry, its the sights we see that count. DW washed our clothes today, I emptied tanks and got water yesterday so we are ready to go. I have done my usual of checking the tires, oil, water, and bay doors. I will clean the windshields before we go too. DW will drive in the car the 64 miles.

To the couple, Ron and Sandy, we met at Holiday Park, we hope the eye surgery went well. Tell Sandy to get well quickly. Maybe see you guys on the road. And to the other couple, Don and Carol, we met there also, get the house built and go traveling. We will be back there in Oct.

Not much to tell. We did get the scanning finished. Just got 700 photos to put text on. The backup took 3 cd's. I left them with my brother here for safe keeping. We will be doing the text in the days to come. We are ready to go.

The End of the Scanning is in Sight

We are getting closer to the end. There is some empty albums and lots of loose photo's that appear to be duplicates. We will go thru these and keep them but not scan them. The mold and mildew smell is just bad. These have been boxed for years and had no air. Now we are getting them out and yuck.

We are upto 1600+ photos with news clippings etc included. Once we get all this sorted and texted, copies will be made and sent to all the relatives we have address's for their use. The actual photo's will go to the kids and grandkids. Someone must keep them for future generations.

My mother did the genology with the Latter Day Saints software and I do like it. I have seen atleast one other software but I like the way this software works. Besides it was free. Once I get some time, I will post this and make it available for viewing.

We will try to leave here by friday and head to Jal, NM for the night or the weekend. If they have full hookups, we will, I should say DW, wash our clothes. Our onboard washer/dryer is slow but it is free and does a better job than the laundries we have to use. Our clothes look terrible from their machines.

From Jal we are planning on stopping at Wink for a couple of days. Then on to Pecos, TX for a couple of days to look at family property. From there its to Three Rivers, NM and the wall writings. So stay with us.

Our Home Network

It took a phone call and about 15 minitues to get the network going. It seems the security of the windows XP was the problem. Now the two laptops "see" each other and we can get this scanning and text on the photo's done. Its a daughting task but it has to be done. We got a box full of photo's to do and photo albums to buy. SCAN, SCAN, and SCAN some more. We are over 1400 photos now and still scanning.

Its The Weekend and its Sunday

8:15 am

it seems we woke up to this yesterdsy. Yes we did and its a cool 56 now. Hopefully today will be like yesterday. We had our shorts on by 3 pm right after the game.

I have not mentioned that we got new phones. Our contract runs out this month and we shopped for and got new camera phones. We have been sending pics to our email and to some family members email.
Sooooooo, if you get a strange email from our phone, starting with 81737138. . . . , its a pic from us. Don't delete it till you view it. The quality is as good as we post here, 640 x 480, and we can talk inside the rv.

We will be home bodies most of the day. We will go get more photo's to scan and stop by the dollar store and buy some albums. I finished last night at 1398 pics. The sad part is I have only put names on 673 of them. There is a small box, 13 x 24 x 13, full of photos to do. More than we will be able to do while we are here. We will take these with us and scan as we travel. There will be some rain days ahead.
